Dave Martin
Dave Martin grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. He studied at the Kansas City Art Institute, and earned a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, with an emphasis on oil painting, drawing and printmaking. Upon graduation, he worked as a portrait artist for years (in oil, pencil and charcoal). He has also worked many years as a free-lance editorial illustrator for magazines, newspapers, and print media. His illustrations were published in the Des Moines Register, The Ethical Humanist Magazine, the Old Town School of Folk Music publications in Chicago, the Quarter Notes folk music newsletter, Press Publication Newspapers - Elmhurst, IL and others. He returned to an emphasis on fine artwork in 2012.
His current work focuses on landscape works, both in etchings and oil painting. He has done extensive work in oil portrait painting and figure studies at the renowned Palette and Chisel Academy in Chicago, where he has exhibited frequently. He works regularly in his home printmaking and painting studios in Lombard, Illinois, as well as at the Chicago Printmaker’s Collaborative, where his work has appeared in a number of exhibitions.
