Ever wondered about the value or background of a piece of artwork, but don't want to pay the expense of a professional appraisal?
For a nominal fee, try our "First-Line Appraisals." Simply give us the information (artist, title, publisher, when and where obtained, etc.) about each piece as well as an image. (Images may not be needed for limited edition prints if other information available.) From this information we can provide you with a written report of value and any other information that may be available. If an image of the item is necessary and one is not available, we can take a digital image for you.
This basic appraisal is suitable for a large percentage of artwork (or other objects). It is accepted documentation for insurance companies in establishing replacement value. It is also helpful to you in determining fair market value and to determining whether a further appraisal is indicated. Call or e-mail us for further information
For artwork of exceptional value and provenance we recommend that you refer to professional organizations such as:
- The American Society of Appraisers (800-272-8258)
- Appraisers Association of America (212-889-5404)
- International Society of Appraisers (206-241-0359)
These organizations can put you in touch with a Certified Appraiser for appraising the items(s) that you have. These types of appraisals may be required to prove worth of very expensive and valuable items by Insurance Companies and the IRS.
Note: Never use an appraiser that charges a percentage of the value of items being appraised. Rates should be based on the time and expense of conducting the appraisal.
